Position Descriptions & Requirements
Relief Veterinarian
Smith Animal Hospital is looking for a relief veterinarian to cover shifts and help us keep up with demand.
This position would be a great opportunity for veterinarians with ideally at least two years of experience and looking for mentorship and experienced veterinarians looking to continue to hone their skills.
And if you find yourself happy working with us, we will certainly consider you joining us as a full-time associate down the road!
You will gain experience working on a wide variety of surgical and medical cases, using the latest technology available so that you can do your best for your clients and their pets. This includes an in-house laboratory, pharmacy, digital x-ray, dual surgery suites with electrocautery and dental capability. We also have access to a top-notch radiologist when their input may be needed and trusted advanced care professionals to assist beyond our abilities.
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: We are a full-service veterinary practice. You will be responsible for general small animal veterinary medicine. This includes preventative health care, pet dental care, and vaccinations. We would prefer someone that can perform small animal surgeries, as that is a big part of our current need to be fulfilled but we are open to other abilities that can be useful.
Our clinic is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. We have NO weekend office hours and NO after-hours or on-call schedule, working entirely on a no forced appointment policy, including surgeries.
We are currently looking to fill at least Wednesday and Thursday shifts. However, we understand this is a relief role and you may have other commitments or desires to balance outside of work. Your schedule during our office hours is negotiable (days worked and shifts) to ensure we all benefit.
We see about 100 – 120 clients per day, where you may see 30 – 40 of those clients, daily. Some days can be steady, but fast-paced. Other days may be slower, but more time may be committed to each client and their needs. We do our best working as a team to keep things running smoothly, but you’ll need to be able to handle sudden changes as they come.
WHAT WE OFFER:
We want you to feel right at home here and are open to visits and short-term externships to ensure this. We also provide:
- $1,000 – $1,400 (and up) per shift rate, depending on work experience
- Negotiable hours and days of work
- Free on-site housing available during site visits
- Potential transition to a full-time associate position, if desired
